A Mariah Carey joke

melvin duchovny avatar While researching a new investment in a fledgling liberal radio network, I was doing some web-searching and I ran across a site by accident. When I saw this I knew I had to pass it along to Huff and Blow readers.

Here's the setup:

mariah carey looks like

Now, what movie character does she look like?

...

...

...give up?

More Mariah dissing here, and don't forget this classic interview.

Exopolitics, paranoia, and xenophobia

Paul Hellyer, who was Defence Minister of Canada from 1963-67, shocked the world a couple of months back when he remarked:

"UFOs, are as real as the airplanes that fly over your head... I'm so concerned about what the consequences might be of starting an intergalactic war, that I just think I had to say something... The secrecy involved in all matters pertaining to the Roswell incident was unparalled. The classification was, from the outset, above top secret, so the vast majority of U.S. officials and politicians, let alone a mere allied minister of defence, were never in-the-loop... The United States military are preparing weapons which could be used against the aliens, and they could get us into an intergalactic war without us ever having any warning... The Bush administration has finally agreed to let the military build a forward base on the moon, which will put them in a better position to keep track of the goings and comings of the visitors from space, and to shoot at them, if they so decide... The time has come to lift the veil of secrecy, and let the truth emerge, so there can be a real and informed debate, about one of the most important problems facing our planet today."

I actually agree with most of his statements. We do need to worry about what our government isn't telling us, and we do need to worry about these weapons and these bases. And, we definitely need to worry about the Shrub starting yet another war, this time of the intergalactic kind.

However, that's where my agreement with him stops. I find his remarks to be extremely xenophobic, sensationalist, paranoic, and, well, downright specist.

Yes, there are UFOs. And, yes, there are advanced civilizations other than our own. But, we have no proof that they are war-like or mean us harm! In fact, would we be here now if they meant us harm?

It's a big universe out there, and I happen to think those civilizations will be just like our own. And, probably even better. There is no doubt we could learn much from them. And, think of their no doubt wonderful customs! What wondrous foods and goods and products are outside even our wildest imaginings? What wonders of the far-off corners of the universe would these visitors from afar bring us? And, bear in mind that those beings - whether humanoid or not - would probably be related to us in some distant way. We have nothing to fear except the fear of our far-off cousins from space.

Bollywood: the world outside your door

Kareena Kapoor

There's a parallel universe out there, folks, and it's bigger than our own: Bollywood. That's the word for the Indian (as in East India) movie industry, and they manage to output about 10 times as much product per year as we do. They have their own stars, superstars, and megastars. For every Brad Pitt, there's three or four Shahid Kapurs. And, for every Jennifer Aniston, there's two or three Kareena Kapoors. That's the beauty pictured to the right.

And, they have their own controversies. Last year in August, Kareena was Going great guns, as The Hindu put it. Then, just a few months later, she was "caught in the act" with Kapur. And, the wheel rolls on.

I know that many Americans have misperceptions and bigotries against Indians, and I wish they'd get over them. Perhaps a fine Indian meal, followed by a screening of a few of Bollywood's top hits, could be used to combat those prejudices.

I have returned

I   thank you for      your thoughts and wishes of     support. I thank    Ariadne and    my nephew Ethan for     helping me through    these times.      During my absence, there has been     a     continuous     stream of bad news    for this corrupt administration.

The most important    is PlameGate and this    business with Judith Miller.     This is to be expected from     the New York    Times, one of the most reactionary    newspapers and I use that word loosely    in the U.S. and lead by Pinch Sulzberger a reactionary of the      first order.

Ethan has helped me     put together the following montage.     I invite you     to tell me    if there is any difference    between these photos      yes Ethan put your photos    on the computer

new york times mobile    weekly world news mobile

Thank you Ethan.     I do not see a difference do   you?

Now     put it on the computer.  Thank

"Open Source Media": another parvenue site

My partner Prince Gerdt and I seem to have started a most unfortunate trend: copy-cat "blogs" featuring people who aren't anybodies even at their corner newsstands.

Perhaps a bit of a history lesson is in order here. We started this site earlier this year, and the first post here was made by me on April 27, 2005.

A few weeks later, the first parvenue copykat site sprang up, the so-called Huffington Post. A larger group of air-headed nobodies you will not find.

Now, we are informed that there will be soon yet another rip-off of our original concept, the so-called "Open Source Media".

I feel like I am Sony and I am faced with a million Chinese knock-offs of my products. Thankfully, consumers can tell the difference between the real thing and a fake.

This OSM will feature far-right reactionaries like Glenn Reynolds and the much-hated Charles Johnson of LGF. For balance, they will include token moderates and liberals such as David Corn and Marc Cooper.

As if it were not bad enough, that report linked to above is written at the web site of former Drudge Report web person Andrew Breitbart, who is reputedly associated with this "HuffPost".

The reason they do things like this is because they do not want you to know the truth. Do not buy their lies. Just as you would not buy cheap Chinese knockoffs, do not buy the parvenue sites.

Microwave your bra to end Global Warming? Stop pulling my chain.

microwave bra japan triumph international

I'm so mad at Triumph International, I could spit! But, since I'm a well-respected actress I won't do that. That lingerie maker has come out with a bra that you put in your microwave. That heats up the material inside, supposedly keeping you warm.

It is obvious to me that this is just their latest attempt to get publicity and draw attention to themselves. And, by the way, that's only going to make the environment worse!

Japan has a "Warm Biz" campaign that wants people to wear more clothing in order to save on heating. At first glance this might appear like it might help, but what about all the electricity those microwaves require? And, what happens when those microwaves are thrown out? What about this so-called "eco-friendly" gel in the bra? How do we know that doesn't contain harsh chemicals that could seep into our ground water?

According to their press release:

"We hope this will not only help prevent global warming but also provide a little fashion chic to the office."

Real cute. How could the land that brought us the Kyoto Protocols - that Bush refused to sign - bring us this? Everyone knows the best way to end global warming: personal energy generation from the wind. This has nothing to do with that.

I have a message for Triumph: do not try to sell your wares in Beverly Hills: we aren't buying it.

Solidarity with the Carolina Panthers cheerleaders!

Renee Thomas Angela Keathley Carolina Panthers cheerleaders

As you know, Carolina Panthers cheerleaders Renee Thomas and Angela Keathley were allegedly caught having sex in a stall at a bar in Tampa. Now, they've been fired.

This site stands in solidarity with their struggle to regain their jobs.

This matter - titilating to some - is a clear case of workers' rights. And, it also reveals the Rethugnantcon "morality": firing working women simply for expressing their love.

I urge you to sign the petition asking the Panthers to keep Renee and Angela on the team, and tell all your friends to sign it too.

Cheerleader Solidarity Now!

What Rolling Stone isn't telling you about Global Warming

Rolling Stone Magazine has released their list of the "Top 25" "warriors" and "heroes" who are trying to stop Global Warming. I am not on the list.

Hello? Lori Gold, Brentwood Confidential, wind generation: ring any bells, Jann?

While there are several fine friends on the list, Rolling Stone Magazine continues their practice of ignoring small wind systems. Yes, driving your Prius helps, but using the wind to generate your own energy helps even more! Why exactly would Jann do this? What is his game? If not me, then Dr. Helmut Schroedingser should have been on the list. And, what is The Gropenator Arnold Schwarzenegger doing on the list? If he had his way we'd get power by burning cats and dogs, he's that evil.

What are they trying to hide from you?

The truth about PlameGate and Fitzgerald

melvin duchovny avatar You might know me as one of the original investors in Al Gore's new TV network. But, in my past I've worked for a certain "Company" based out of Virginia. That line of work is not as dangerous as you might have heard... it's even more dangerous.

Thus, it's especially troubling to hear about Valerie Plame's cover having been blown by this irresponsible administration. As Senator Hillary Clinton told me at a private meeting in her Washington DC office:

"This administration owes our CIA agents around the world a promise that their identities will never be jeopardized. And it owes the American people direct answers and responsible action."

Unfortunately, we will not get that. Fitzmas was a dud, and all America got was a lump of coal in its collective stocking.

I say that as someone who is quite familiar with Patrick Fitzgerald, having helped prosecute - and defend - white collar criminals for a few decades, including cases involving Fitzgerald himself. He is not as impartial as you have been told, and those of us in the know are quite familiar with his biases.

Let me explain. At one time I was involved with a certain religious organization operating out of Rome. I will not reveal their name for obvious reasons, but I am sure that you will have heard of them, as they have millions of members throughout the world. My duties with this organization involved certain activities - highly legal I hasten to add - that are necessary for the proper functioning of this organization. It is also in that context that I have personal knowledge of Fitzgerald's unsuitability to prosecute this case.

To use one of those baseball analogies that Fitz is fond of, he was facing a breaking ball, but the 2nd baseman made the wrong choice in the fielder's choice. And, to use a football analogy, you don't do flea flickers on 4th and short...
